Mon dieu...so beautiful men do exist

http://www.garancedore.fr/2008/10/27/no-ordinary-men/#comments

Tales of the night

I think you can safely blame the latest fascination with black lace on Prada. I love the intrigue and subversiveness that it brings out.

This I bought almost 2 months ago but never got around to photographing...

This was a newer find - last week - Monday or Tuesday (oh the perils of finishing work early). I also bought a pair of pants that are a cross between jodphurs and drop crotch trousers but they are quite impossible to photograph in any mildly flattering manner so I've given up on posting them.

This I got together with the dress with the massive i-am-a-prehistoric-bird sleeves. You can't really tell from the photo but it's a puffball skirt and befitting of a little princess tyrant *stomp*stomp*

shoulder holster

i've found myself in a bit of a funk lately - i've been uninspired by what i've seen in the shops, i've become bored with all my music...nothing has made my stomach flutter, nothing has challenged me.
and on one such evening i trawled the usual suspects while waiting for the rain to stop and the traffic madness to die down when i came across this dress with amazing architectural sleeves. and just like that my faith in design has been rekindled.

I managed to do serious damage in 15 minutes:(

OKay. here's the one that came home with me.

A made in Japan skirt, using vintage fabric and putting the pleats in fresh I think. Its sweet and comes to just above my knee...

Summer perfect. I now need a raspberry tank to go with it, so I can wear it with my sandals.

BUT i am horribly excited about this gorgeous dress which I put on layby... (BCBG i think... I can't remember).

Black, and lots of black fish scale shaped scallops at the hem, overlapping and graceful.
sparse and not over the top jet-bead detail on the dropped waist bodice.
will post when I pay off the layby. And I will get one of the boys to take the picture, because its much prettier on, than just on the hanger.

*****I decided against the brown lace-ups. I cannot justify USD451(!!!!!) especially when the AUD is doing so poorly. *sniff* will keep an eye out for something similar and cheaper. :(

Shopping relapse... need rehab

OK. going cold turkey no shopping is a bad bad bad plan...

My navy houndstooth coat. (pardon the bad photography... was all taken in 5 minutes before this) (click for larger pictures... )

Vintage. Adorable.
Large lapels.(houndstooth).
big pockets. houndstooth!
big navy buttons!
HOUNDSTOOTH!

so you guys getting the idea I love the houndstooth bit about the coat? :D
It's a wee bit big, but I'll fix then come next winter.

An innocent foray into contemporary/recycled industrial/antique furniture store with the boy revealed two racks of hand-picked vintage clothing. I was immediately drawn to this.

I wear it belted, and love how retro it is. Easy peasy :D

And a belated post about my bag purchase. I finally went with:

He's roomy, and I love the colour.
I love the fact that it is patent and that patent is meant to be glossy and super smooth. But here it is perversely and sexily, wrinkled and crumpled when you look at it closely.

NOT WEDDING SHOES :P

What is with me and falling in shoes so spectacularly out of season for Melbourne? I don't know. It maybe because today it was a ridiculous 11 degrees outside, hail and rain. All this after a gorgeous low 20s sunny weekend. Mistress melbourne you toy with me so...
But back to the boots...

These babies are so anti-sexy, but yet so hot.
I want them soooo bad for stomping and running all over town doing errands. They'd be pretty sweet with skinnies and a slouchy top and a kicking hat for transseasonal cool. What do we think? yay or nay?

(and quick before the boy finds out I am plotting another shoe purchase :P)
and the link for more details: (picture is off revolve website... just found them)

man-pants

My current favourite no-effort, super comfy (second and third helpings at dinner) outfit: Brown tweed pants from Leopold's and navy secretary-style blouse. The pants are actually man-pants that I bought because they were gorgeously slouchy and better than other pants cut for girls... I am also tempted to buy the same pants a size smaller, which fits me perfectly.

You can't see this, but I was wearing bright red lipstick, and taken off my gladiator heels (alcohol makes my feet swell :P)

two new/old pieces

I popped my yellow cherry this weekend, and bought my first yellow item ever... and it wasn't even shoes! I have this rule, NO YELLOW! because it hates my skintone, and I looked very ill in yellow. But not this sweet buttercup vision!

A lovely vintage pale yellow dress. V-neck, vaguely frilly, diaphanous, with a sweet silhouette. the boy approved and I wore it out tonight on our movie date (Tropic Thunder... I love Robert Downey... He plays an aussie playing a black actor... and completely takes the mickey out of Russell Crowe... I love Ben stiller films, and I cringed at Tom Cruise for all the right reasons this time... awesome fun).

Also nabbed an adorable navy houndstooth vintage coat on ebay. It's on its way to me now. I realise its the wrong weather for me to be coat-buying, but it was a bargain.

Pictures to follow... when i take pictures of shoes I am going to put onto the ebay merry-go-round...

Eleanor is a shoe addict

Ah, what the hell. While I'm at it I'd might as well put up the second shoe post:

Internet

With the current economic climate (and alas, the state of my bank account), fashion is said to be entering into an age of austerity. I suspect that economics aside, this has more to do with savvy marketing than maintaining healthy bank balances but those form the musings for another post.

Anyhoo, I have encountered yet again the evils of online browsing:

1) Basic tees

2) Delicate tanks

3) Covetable jackets

(oh how this makes me want to don a top hat and tumble down a rabbit hole)

4) Tongue in cheek tops

(All garments from Topshop).

Eleanor put your boots on

In keeping with the inordinate number of shoe posts on our humble blog...

PS - I love being on holiday.

Noir

The idea of an lbd may seem a little tired but I think they are good closet staples nonetheless...and have unwittingly
accumulated quite a few! (Click on the photo for more detail).
(left - lace with satin frill hem and netted neckline, middle - the origami-like details made this love at first sight, right - Tsumori Chisato jersey dress with scalloped hem)

Spoils III

continued...

6) a white netted vintage hat which fits my head surprisingly well

7) black ruched satin opera length gloves

8) a grey jersey skirt with folds down the front and back creating the illusion of pockets (it's super comfortable and reminds me of a pair of sweat pants that someone has butchered and breathed new life into)

I also got a black Tsumori Chisato jersey dress with a scalloped hem, charcoal grey tee with leg of mutton sleeves and a cheesy pink plastic umbrella but haven't gotten round to photographing them just yet. All thrifted from Kyoto and Tokyo except for the stuff from Gap and the Warhol bag.

Spoils II

continued...

4) some breezy basics from Gap (lilac and chalky grey striped tee, white shirt and oatmeal colored knit with little upturned
sleeves which you can't see in the picture)

5) a lavender Andy Warhol canvas tote (because I really really wanted something in that color on that day!)
